Police in the Sirajganj district of Bangladesh have arrested a 40-year-old man accused of repeatedly raping an 11-year-old primary school student. The suspect, identified as Hanif Sheikh, was taken into custody on Sunday afternoon following a call to the national emergency service, 999.

According to a case filing reported by the local media, the incident occurred in a vacant corrugated iron shed located near the victim’s school in the Raiganj sub-district. The victim’s family alleged that the assault was not an isolated incident, claiming that Sheikh had repeatedly abused the child over a period of time. The girl reportedly remained silent about the ordeal due to death threats made by the suspect.
