Rural roadside tea stall becomes viral destination in Dinajpur

Beneath the sprawling canopy of an ancient banyan tree at the intersection of Dinajpur’s Birampur and Hakimpur upazilas, a roadside tea stall has become an unlikely destination for travelers and social media enthusiasts alike. Operated by 25-year-old Maruf Hossain, the mobile shop, known as “Tea and Ta,” serves a specialized menu centered on piping hot milk tea and toasted bread topped with butter and sugar, drawing patrons from across the region.
Since launching the stall on the afternoon of Eid-ul-Fitr, Hossain has successfully leveraged social media to turn a modest roadside operation into a regional hotspot. By promoting videos of his signature toasted bread and tea preparations on his Facebook page, he has attracted visitors from as far as Joypurhat and Naogaon. Some customers travel nearly 70 kilometers after seeing the content online, eager to experience the unique combination of flavors and the scenic, rural atmosphere.

The stall’s appeal lies as much in its setting as its refreshments. Situated along the Birampur-Hili regional highway, the location offers a rustic backdrop featuring an old culvert, a nearby railway line, and a tranquil creek. Hossain has enhanced the environment with amenities such as a swing hanging from the banyan tree and fishing rods available for customers who wish to cast a line into the adjacent creek while they enjoy their refreshments.
Between 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. daily, the area transforms into a communal gathering space. Patrons—ranging from families seeking a quiet retreat to groups of friends—settle onto the culvert, the passenger shelter, or the railway tracks to converse. The menu has expanded to include seven varieties of tea, including lemon, tulsi, malai, tamarind, and jaggery-infused blends, all prepared with the assistance of Hossain’s 12-year-old brother, Masum.

For many visitors, the stall offers a necessary respite from urban congestion. Customers frequently cite the distinctive taste of the tea and the unconventional, relaxing environment as their primary reasons for returning. As the venture continues to grow, Hossain remains focused on his original vision: providing a peaceful, natural setting where people can escape the noise of city life over a simple, well-crafted cup of tea.
