Rohingya youth arrested in Teknaf for alleged involvement with Pakistan-based TTP
A Rohingya youth named Mohammad Ullah (20) has been arrested by the police from Teknaf shelter camp in Cox's Bazar for his involvement with Pakistan-based banned terrorist organization 'Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan' (TTP). A case has been filed against him under the Anti-Terrorism Act. He was sent to jail on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the police, a group of police from Teknaf police station arrested Mohammad Uliah after raiding the Leda shelter camp of Hnila union of the upazila on Monday night. Mohammad Ulyah is the son of Abdul Karim, a resident of F-Block of the shelter. A mobile phone was seized at this time.
The officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf Model Police Station confirmed the fact of the arrest. Saiful Islam He said, "In the preliminary interrogation, the information about the involvement of TTP with the arrested Mohammad Ullah has been found. Various information found on his mobile phone is being verified.
Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ahidur Rahman said that Rohingya Mohammad Ullah was identified with the help of information technology of Special Branch of Intelligence Police. Mohammad Ullah was sent to Cox's Bazar court this afternoon with a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act. The court ordered him to be sent to jail.
Mohammad Ahidur Rahman said, "Various messages, documents and evidence of international communication have been found in the seized cell phone. Analyzing these data, investigation is underway to identify others involved in the incident.
According to the police, the arrested Mohammad Ullah is an active member of a WhatsApp group called 'Hakikat News', which is associated with Pakistan-based terrorist organization TTP. The group operates in the Urdu language and has been accused of encouraging terrorist activities through international media.
The SI of Teknaf police station led the operation. Belal said, Mohammad Ullah has opened an ID on social media under the name 'Ayatollah BD Ahmed'. He was keeping in touch with TTP related persons for a long time from that ID and through mobile phone. Analyzing the information obtained, it is believed that he is also involved with a student organization of the Rohingya armed group Arsa (Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army) and that Mohammad Ullah has links with their military wing.
Superintendent of Police ANM Sajedur Rahman said that surveillance has been increased to prevent terrorist activities in the Rohingya camp.
