Falling debris from construction site kills rickshaw puller in Rangpur
A 35-year-old rickshaw puller died in Rangpur on Saturday after being struck by falling construction debris, an incident that has prompted an investigation by local authorities.
The victim, identified as Chanchal, was traveling along Kazi Bari Road in the Khalifapara area when several bricks plummeted from the roof of a six-story building currently under construction. Witnesses reported that Chanchal, a native of Kishoreganj in Nilphamari who made his living pulling a rented rickshaw, was thrown from his seat upon impact.
Bystanders rushed the injured man to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The building is reportedly owned by a United States expatriate, Rabiul Islam, and was undergoing construction work at the time of the accident.
Nazmul Kadir, officer-in-charge of the Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station, confirmed that the body has been transferred to the hospital morgue. Police are currently awaiting a formal complaint to initiate further legal action regarding the safety standards at the construction site.
