Police recover suspicious objects near Gangni Union Parishad member home in Meherpur

Police in Meherpur’s Gangni Upazila recovered two suspected explosive devices from in front of the residence of Afroza Khatun, a panel chairman of Sholtaka Union Parishad, on Sunday morning.
The objects, wrapped in red tape, were discovered by passersby near Khatun’s home in Amtoil village. The discovery triggered alarm among local residents and the family of the union parishad member. Khatun, who serves as a member of the reserved ward, is the wife of Abul Hossain, the president of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) ward number seven unit.
Upon receiving reports of the suspicious items, a team from the Hemayetpur police outpost arrived at the scene and secured the objects.
Preliminary reports from local sources indicate that the incident may be linked to ongoing internal disputes among union parishad members regarding the distribution of rice. There are concerns that the incident was orchestrated by an unidentified group to exert political influence and intimidate the family.
Gangni Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahaddis Morshed Chowdhury confirmed that the objects have been taken into police custody for forensic examination. Authorities have launched an investigation to identify those responsible for placing the devices and to determine the motive behind the incident.
