Police arrest suspect in shooting of known gang figure in Dhaka

Dhaka police have arrested a man identified as Imam Hossain in connection with the shooting of Yasin Khan Palash, a known figure previously listed as a top-ranking criminal, in the capital’s Rampura area on Friday. Authorities have also seized a motorcycle and a helmet believed to have been used by the assailants during the attack.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:45 p.m. near a local confectionery shop, where Palash was targeted while returning home from Friday prayers. According to investigators, unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire, striking Palash twice in the head. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where medical staff described his condition as critical.
Rampura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jahangir Alam confirmed that Hossain was taken into custody shortly after the shooting. He is currently being interrogated as police investigate whether additional accomplices were involved in the assassination attempt. Investigators are also working to determine the motive behind the attack.
Palash, who was previously convicted in the murder case of Jubo Dal leader Mizanur Rahman Mizan, had been released from prison on bail approximately one month ago. Police are continuing to analyze evidence to establish a clear timeline of events and identify those responsible for the shooting.
