Sohanurs corruption case indictment hearing set for June 17
A Dhaka court has set June 17 for the hearing on the indictment of Syed Sohanur Rahman in a case involving the acquisition of assets beyond known income.
Sohanur is the son of Syed Abed Ali, a former chairman of the Public Service Commission who gained notoriety in question paper leak scandals. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against Sohanur.
The hearing was scheduled to take place on Tuesday before Judge Shamima Afroze of the Divisional Special Judge's Court in Dhaka. The court set the new date after defense lawyers requested a postponement.
ACC Prosecutor Delwar Jahan confirmed the information.
The ACC had filed three separate cases against Abed Ali, his wife Shahreen Akter, and their son Syed Sohanur Rahman on January 5 last year. Sohanur, currently a banned student leader, is accused of amassing wealth amounting to 33 million Bangladeshi Taka (approximately $390,000 USD) beyond his known income.
Sohanur was arrested on January 20 and has been in judicial custody since then.
