Protesters block Dhaka-Sylhet highway demanding arrests in Brahmanbaria teen murder case
Hundreds of local residents blocked the Dhaka-Sylhet highway on Sunday morning to protest the lack of arrests in the murder of 15-year-old Jihad Mia in Sarail, Brahmanbaria. The demonstration began at approximately 9:30 a.m. near the Kuttapara intersection, causing significant traffic disruption as protesters demanded swift legal action against those responsible for the teenager’s death.
Jihad Mia was fatally attacked by unidentified assailants on July 10 in Kuttapara village. While a murder case has been officially filed in connection with the incident, law enforcement authorities have yet to make any arrests. The slow pace of the investigation has fueled widespread public frustration, prompting the local community to take to the streets.
The Sarail Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and the officer-in-charge of the Sarail Police Station arrived at the scene to address the protesters and assess the situation. As of 11:00 a.m., the blockade remained in effect, and authorities were continuing their efforts to manage the crowd and restore traffic flow on the major transit route.
