NCP Lawmaker Accuses Interior Minister of Normalizing Border Killings

National Citizens’ Party (NCP) chief organizer and lawmaker Hasnat Abdullah has accused the Interior Minister of legitimizing border killings, characterizing the ministry’s stance as a continuation of previous “subservient policies.”

Speaking at a rally organized by the NCP’s Chitalmari upazila branch in Bagerhat on Tuesday, Abdullah expressed deep dissatisfaction with the current administration’s approach to foreign policy and border security. He argued that the government has failed to establish a firm, national policy to counter foreign aggression at the border, asserting that the current Interior Minister is employing the same rhetoric used by the previous Awami League administration to justify the loss of life at the frontier.

Despite his sharp critique of the ministry, Abdullah offered praise for the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), expressing gratitude for the courage displayed by frontline personnel in fulfilling their duties under challenging circumstances.

Addressing the broader political climate, the lawmaker cautioned that the nation is navigating a precarious transition. He warned that the optimism following the collapse of the previous autocratic regime is rapidly curdling into public disillusionment, largely due to unfulfilled government promises. He emphasized that the erosion of national confidence could have severe long-term consequences for the country’s stability.

Abdullah also took aim at the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), accusing the party of engaging in political duplicity regarding recent discussions on referendums and the “July Charter.” He maintained that while political parties may falter in their commitments, the public—particularly those who sacrificed during the July movement—remains steadfast in its pursuit of justice and will not be led astray.

The event, presided over by NCP Chitalmari coordinator F.M. Shahriar Al Islam Jewel, also featured addresses from Bagerhat-1 lawmaker Mashiur Rahman Khan, along with central party leaders Sarwar Tushar, Ali Ahsan Junaid, and Mohiuddin Rony.
