NCP Launches Jatiya Krishak Shakti to Advocate for Farmer Rights and Policy Reform

The Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) officially launched its agrarian affiliate, Jatiya Krishak Shakti, during a mass farmer rally in Kurigram on Thursday. The event, held at the Tograi Hat High School grounds, marked the formal unveiling of the organization and the announcement of its partial central committee tasked with advancing the rights of the nation’s farming community.

NCP convener and Chief Whip of the Opposition, Nahid Islam, announced the new leadership team during the proceedings. The committee is led by convener Sayeed Uzzal, while agricultural scientist Golam Mortuza Selim serves as member secretary. Selim brings extensive experience to the role, having previously served as a central committee member, agricultural secretary, and joint chief coordinator for the Jatiya Nagorik Committee.

The central committee includes senior joint conveners Fakhruddin Ahmed Zaki and Md. Abdul Aziz, alongside senior joint member secretaries Mujibur Rahman Khokon and Rakibul Hasan Rana. Nafiul Islam has been appointed as the chief organizer.

During his address, Golam Mortuza Selim emphasized that farmers are the backbone of the nation’s food security, yet they remain systematically marginalized, struggling to secure fair prices for their produce or access to essential agricultural resources. He declared that Jatiya Krishak Shakti is committed to transforming this reality, aiming to move beyond a model of state charity toward one where farmers are recognized as active partners in national policymaking. He asserted that the establishment of farmers’ rights is a prerequisite for long-term national development.

The rally was presided over by Dr. Atiq Mujahid, Member of Parliament for Kurigram-2 and a joint convener of the NCP central committee. The event was moderated by district NCP joint conveners Rasheduzzaman Tawheed and Golam Mortuza Selim. Following the announcement of the committee, convener Sayeed Uzzal read the organization’s formal declaration, as leadership pledged to expand the group’s operations across the country.
