Manikganj District Detective Branch (DB) police have arrested a 40-year-old man in Dhaka in connection with the double murder of his sister-in-law and her toddler son in Daulatpur upazila. The suspect, Yusuf Ali, was apprehended late Tuesday night in the Mirpur embankment area of the capital following an intensive manhunt.

According to police and local residents, the motive for the killings stemmed from a long-standing property dispute and deep-seated familial animosity between Yusuf and his brother, Abdus Salam. Investigators stated that Yusuf had traveled to the village of Bachamara ahead of Eid-ul-Adha. On the night of the incident, a confrontation erupted, leading Yusuf to allegedly strike his sister-in-law, Amina Khatun, and her 18-month-old son, Aswad, in the head with a hammer. Both victims died at the scene.

When Abdus Salam arrived at the house shortly after the attack, he was also assaulted with the same weapon. While Salam managed to escape and seek help from local residents, he sustained severe injuries and remains under medical care at Manikganj Medical College Hospital.

The brutal nature of the crime sparked public outcry, with local residents organizing a protest march on Monday demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrator.
