According to local residents and family members, the conflict stemmed from a community drainage project intended to alleviate flooding in the courtyard shared by seven households during the monsoon season. Robin Hawlader had initiated the installation of plastic piping to clear stagnant water, with the cost to be divided among the participating families. However, the plan met with stiff opposition from the family of Ananda Bepari.

The disagreement intensified into a verbal altercation early Wednesday morning. Witnesses reported that a group of eight to ten individuals, led by Ratan Bepari, subsequently assaulted the Hawlader family using clubs and sharp weapons.
