Experts Urge Students to Prioritize Global Literacy and AI Skills for Future Careers
Educators and industry experts have urged students to transcend traditional academic boundaries, advocating for a holistic approach to education that prioritizes artificial intelligence literacy, global awareness, and personal well-being. The call to action came during a seminar titled “Student Life, Career, and Awareness,” held Sunday at Azimpur Government Girls School and College, marking the 11th installment of the “Tarunner Prithibi” initiative, a collaboration between Stamford University and Prothom Alo.
Speakers emphasized that in an increasingly digitized era, students must cultivate themselves as global citizens. Stamford University’s Architecture Department Chairperson, Sonia Afrin, encouraged students to leverage creativity in environmental conservation, suggesting that architecture offers a unique platform for those aiming to leave a lasting societal impact. She highlighted the necessity of integrating technical knowledge with a deep appreciation for sustainable design.
Highlighting the importance of intellectual curiosity, Prothom Alo Managing Editor Anisul Haque stressed that academic achievements such as a high GPA should not be the sole focus of a student's life. He advised students to look beyond textbooks and embrace the joy of reading, maintaining that a well-rounded education is essential for future leadership. He encouraged students to remain resilient in the face of setbacks, urging them to seek new opportunities if initial career goals are not met.
The seminar also addressed the practical requirements of the modern workforce. Mohammad Ali, vice president of Prothom Alo Bondhushobha, outlined ten essential skills that students can acquire through artificial intelligence, noting that these competencies are critical for building a global career. His presentation, which included interactive Q&A sessions, underscored the need for students to proactively adapt to emerging technologies.
Reflecting on the importance of staying informed, Azimpur Government Girls School and College Principal Md. Salahuddin challenged students to broaden their perspectives beyond their immediate surroundings. He urged the student body to swap excessive time on mobile devices for at least an hour of daily newspaper reading. According to the principal, this habit is crucial for maintaining an understanding of international affairs and keeping pace with rapid technological advancements.
The event, which was moderated by Dhaka metropolitan information and communication technology editor Afia Ibnat, also featured remarks from lecturer Rita Sarkar and student representative Zakiur Rahman. The seminar concluded with a musical performance by artist Anik Sutradhar, providing a moment of leisure in line with the speakers' emphasis on balancing hard work with the pursuit of happiness.
