Kushtia Lawmaker Amir Hamza Issues Ultimatum Following Attack on Motorcade

KUSHTIA — Member of Parliament for Kushtia-3 (Sadar), Amir Hamza, has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to local authorities to arrest those he described as “identified terrorists” from the Gano Odhikar Parishad following an alleged targeted attack on his vehicle.

Speaking at a press conference held at the district Jamaat-e-Islami office in the Mollategharia area of Kushtia town on Sunday, Hamza claimed the attack was a premeditated attempt to destabilize the region. He announced that his party is scheduled to hold a protest rally in the town later this afternoon.

During the conference, the lawmaker presented a three-point demand to the administration, calling for the immediate arrest of those involved, direct and indirect, within 24 hours. He further demanded that legal action be taken against the masterminds of the incident based on CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts, while urging local law enforcement to operate free from political pressure and adopt a “zero tolerance” policy toward violence.

Hamza expressed sharp criticism of the local administration, labeling officials as “inactive and failed.” He asserted that the current leadership in the district is incapable of ensuring public safety.

Addressing questions regarding reports that sticks were retrieved from his vehicle during the incident, Hamza stated that he keeps two sticks in his car for personal security as he does not possess a government-issued firearm or official security detail. He explained that his driver had stepped out with a stick in defense when the attack occurred, while he himself maneuvered the vehicle away from the scene.

The press conference was attended by Members of Parliament Abdul Gafur (Kushtia-2) and Abzal Hossain (Kushtia-4), as well as district Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary Enamul Haque.

Meanwhile, a formal complaint has been filed with the Kushtia Model Police Station. Momin Biswas, personal assistant to Amir Hamza, submitted the case statement to the Officer-in-Charge (OC) at approximately 11:15 a.m. The complaint names 23 members of the Gano Odhikar Parishad as suspects, with an additional 40 to 50 unidentified individuals also listed.

Officer-in-Charge Kabir Hossain Matubbar confirmed receipt of the complaint, stating that the formal registration of the case is currently in progress.
