Prime Minister Tarique Rahman signals potential cabinet reshuffle based on performance evaluations
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman maintains the prerogative to reshuffle his cabinet or reassign ministerial portfolios should he determine that members are failing to meet performance expectations. While speculation persists regarding potential changes following the government’s first 180 days in office, the timeline for such adjustments remains fluid.
Zahed Ur Rahman, the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Information and Broadcasting, addressed these potential shifts during a regular press briefing at the Secretariat on Tuesday. Emphasizing the Prime Minister’s focus on governance efficiency, the adviser noted that if the Prime Minister identifies a need to improve the administration’s output, he will act to ensure the welfare of the public. He underscored that such decisions are at the Prime Minister’s discretion and are intended to optimize the cabinet's efficacy rather than adhere to a fixed calendar.
The current administration, which took office on February 17, consists of the Prime Minister, 24 full ministers, 23 state ministers, and 10 advisers holding the rank of ministers. Under the established Rules of Business, the Prime Minister holds the exclusive authority to distribute or redistribute departmental responsibilities among cabinet members.
During the briefing, the information adviser also announced that the government is in the process of forming a legal panel tasked with curbing cyberbullying and the spread of misinformation. He indicated that the official notification regarding the formation of this panel is expected to be issued before the end of the week.
The press conference, which also featured updates on the government's recent activities, was attended by the Chief Information Officer of the Press Information Department, Syed Abdal Ahmed.
