“Kalo Manik”, “Raja Mia” and others are also in the market in the rain-soaked market

Cloudy sky since morning. It’s swirling like a shadow—it’s raining intermittently. The cow and goat market is going on under this cloudy sky. A few bulls of various sizes and colors named ‘Kalo Manik’, ‘Raja Mia’, ‘IPL-BPL’ have made the market very colorful. However, along with these famous bulls, others big and small also flocked to this color fair.
There is only one day left for Eid al-Adha. Last minute shopping is going on in the market. Crowds of people are increasing in search of preferred sacrificial animals – one such market is running in Kashinath Alauddin High School and College grounds in Moulvibazar. Vendors are bringing cattle from various directions to the market. The crowd of cattle is increasing, the crowd of buyers is also increasing.

Some rain is falling in Moulvibazar almost every day. Since last Monday night, it has been raining intermittently, sometimes intermittently, and the sky has been covered with clouds. The rain has eased a bit this Tuesday morning. But it doesn’t stop at all. At times it is misty, sometimes it is raining heavily. The sky is always covered with clouds. In the meantime, the purchase of sacrificial animals has accumulated in the Kashinath Alauddin High School and College grounds.
In the market today afternoon, it was seen that the owners of the cattle have tied their cows to the poles in the places they like. Some are feeding grass to cows, some are feeding jackfruit to goats. The sellers are bringing two or four cows. Little by little the crowd of cattle is increasing. The crowd of buyers is also increasing. Buyers are bargaining if they like cows. This crowd will gather more in the evening. Meanwhile, some bulls stand out from the crowd of cattle and catch the attention of buyers. Not only buyers but curious onlookers are flocking to this bull.

Three black bulls, big and small, were standing in a place in the market. All three sat down at once. These bulls have been brought from Uttarmulaim of Sadar Upazila. The owner of the bulls is Abdul Gaffar. He raised these Friesian bulls as a hobby. He has about 50 cows including cows in his farm. He said that the bulls were raised from the calves of the cows with completely natural food.
Saju Mia, who oversees the black bulls, said the bulls were fed maize meal, husk and straw. No artificial food was fed. The biggest bull among the three is called ‘Black Manik’. It is about three and a half years old. The asking price of black manik weighing about 30 maunds is 7 lakh 90 thousand taka. At home, one of the buyers paid six lakh rupees for the black manik. One of the other two is called ‘BPL’ and the other is called ‘IPL’. The asking price of BPL is 5 lakh 80 thousand taka and the price of IPL is asking 5 lakh 90 thousand taka. The weight of these two is more than 25 maunds. Yesterday, Monday afternoon, three bulls were brought to the market.
Saju Mia said, “Owner likes to keep palchain.” They are very calm. If you get the right price, sell it. Let’s keep it.’
The red colored ‘Raja Mia’ is standing nearby. Samuj Mia, who was in charge of Raja Mia, was trying to feed the bull with grass. Why do you know Raja Mia doesn’t want to eat—repeatedly turning away from the grass. Samuj Mia said that Raja Mia is a bull of Shahiwal breed. He brought this bull from Bahubal in Habiganj on Monday afternoon. Raja Mia’s weight is 26 maunds. Raised their own heifer calves. He is three years old.
Apart from this, two more big bulls were seen on the northern side of the hut. Red and black colored bulls are standing side by side. Saikat Mia, who is in charge of the bulls, said that Chadik Mia is the owner of the two bulls brought from Gandehri in Sadar Upazila. The weight of the red one is 12 maunds. The asking price is four lakh rupees. The black one weighs about 10 maunds—the asking price is three and a half lakh taka.
Another bull was brought to the market from Khalishpur of Sadar Upazila with flower garlands around its neck and colorful cloths on its back. Its weight is about one ton. The asking price is eight lakh rupees. Apart from this, cows of different colors and sizes are appearing in the market. As time goes on, the number of cattle is increasing. The crowd of buyers is also increasing. This market will continue till Eid night.
Due to rain, mud has accumulated in the field. Sand is being thrown by the organizers. The sellers are sitting with goats on the south side of the field. Goats are also kept for sale on the southern side of the municipality. A few sit with grass for the cattle and jackfruit for the goats for sale. A few people are sitting with a piece of wood for cutting meat.
But the rain is not leaving behind. Intermittent light rain, gusty wind has hindered the normal movement of people. Rain has added to the misery of buyers and sellers.
