Jackal pulls newborn corpse from jungle in Jamalpur, body later recovered

A newborn’s body was found on a street in Jamalpur, Bangladesh, on Thursday morning after a fox was seen dragging it from a nearby jungle, local residents and police reported.
The incident occurred in the Boshpara area of Jamalpur city. Passersby and locals alerted by the sight of the fox immediately raised an alarm, prompting the animal to abandon the infant’s body and flee.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after being notified and recovered the body. It was subsequently sent to the Jamalpur General Hospital morgue for examination.
According to local sources, the fox emerged from a jungle adjacent to a pond embankment, carrying the infant’s remains. The distressing discovery quickly spread through the neighborhood, drawing a crowd of curious onlookers.

Nazzul Islam, a local resident, told reporters that he went to the site after hearing about the incident. “No one can say if the newborn was alive or dead when it was left in the jungle. The matter had not come to anyone’s notice. Everyone learned about it when the fox dragged the body onto the street,” he said, lamenting the abandonment of such a young child.
Jamalpur Sadar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) SM Nur Mohammad confirmed that police responded to calls from residents. “Upon arrival, the newborn was found deceased. We have not yet gathered any information regarding how the infant came to be there or who abandoned it. The matter is under investigation, and legal action will be taken,” he stated.
