The International Crimes Tribunal-1 has sentenced three individuals to death for crimes against humanity committed during the July mass uprising in Dhaka’s Rampura area. The court’s verdict, delivered Sunday by a three-member panel led by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Mozumder, also handed down a life sentence to one defendant, while a fifth individual received a 20-year prison term.
The proceedings centered on the violent suppression of protesters, including a harrowing incident in which a young man was shot while clinging to the cornice of an under-construction building in Rampura. The tribunal, which also included justices Shafiul Alam and Mohitul Huq Enam Chowdhury, concluded that the evidence presented against the accused substantiated charges of atrocities that occurred during the political upheaval.
