In the next five years, BRAC will prioritize five issues including inclusive development

In Barisal division, the service will reach one in four residents by 2025, according to the private organization BRAC. These services are provided in various sectors including health, education, financial inclusion, disaster management, safe water and sanitation (WASH), climate change mitigation, migration, skill development. This information was given at the annual report of the organization’s activities in 2025 in the Barisal division of BRAC in the auditorium of a hotel on Band Road, Barisal Nagar, on Wednesday morning.

In the event, BRAC officials said that in the next 5 years, BRAC has set a goal of creating employment for one million people across the country. Apart from this, it will give special importance to inclusive development, quality education, financial inclusion, primary health care and climate resilience with a focus on women and youth.

On the occasion, BRAC’s Director of Mills, Risk Management, Safeguarding and Social Compliance AFM Shahidur Rahman gave a speech highlighting the significant aspects of the company’s next five-year plan and integrated development initiatives. He said that BRAC is working for the long-term development and potential development of people. To ensure accountability, BRAC regularly publishes annual reports and is committed to continuing this process in the future. He said that in the next five years, BRAC will prioritize five types of work focusing on women and youth. They are inclusive development, employment generation, quality education, primary health care and climate resilience.

Barisal Divisional Commissioner Khalil Ahmed was present as a guest in this event. He said, the scope of BRAC is now very wide. It is not possible for the government to do everything alone. The government and private partners like BRAC must work together to move the country forward. Local administration will stand by BRAC. At that time, the Divisional Commissioner requested BRAC to consider introducing an advanced fish processing (cold storage) system to facilitate the fishermen of Barisal.

In the speech of the special guest, DIG of Police Barisal range. Mostafizur Rahman said that since the birth of Bangladesh, BRAC has been advancing in its own way. Very few organizations in Bangladesh have managed to go global like BRAC. An annual report is a written document. This demonstrates BRAC’s commitment to accountability and responsibility. The police will assist in security in BRAC’s activities extending to the grassroots.

Sajjad Hossain, senior manager of BRAC’s migration program, highlighted various development activities of BRAC in Barisal division. He said, according to the census and household census of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, the population of Barisal division is 89 lakh. By 2025, 2.4 million people have come under the service of BRAC. That is, 1 out of every 4 people in this category received BRAC services.

According to BRAC, assistance has been given to 19 thousand 808 extremely poor families in Barisal division in 2025, out of which 10 thousand 394 families have been successfully freed from extreme poverty. 6 thousand 355 families have received assistance on climate resilience. 9 lakh 40 thousand people of Barisal division have come under financial services from BRAC. About 91 percent of the borrowers of the microfinance program are women. More than 4 lakh 92 thousand people have come under health and nutrition related services and awareness messages in Barisal division. More than 190,000 antenatal and postnatal services have been provided in this department and BRAC has helped ensure 51,983 safe deliveries. 1 lakh 39 thousand 602 people came under the test of high blood pressure and diabetes. Similarly, various programs including education and skill development, climate change and disaster tolerance, equal rights of women and men were informed.
