In Mymensingh, accused of hacking grandmother to death for not registering the land, youth arrested

A young man has been accused of hacking his grandmother to death in Mymensingh’s Phulpur without deeding the land. The woman was killed in Jatia village of Vaitkandi union of the upazila at around nine o’clock on Wednesday night. Police arrested the accused youth in this incident.

The deceased Ayesha Khatun (70) is the daughter of deceased Nabi Hossain of that village. Detained Jasim Uddin (35) son of deceased Mahidul Islam. About them grandmother and grandson.

According to police and local sources, Ayesha Khatun was divorced long ago. His only son is Jasim. Jasim’s father died after he was born. Later Jasim’s mother got married elsewhere. Jasim was with his grandmother Ayesha Khatun. Later Jasim got married and built a house some distance away from his grandmother’s house. He has two children. Jasim’s wife left him recently due to a family dispute. Jasim lives alone in his house. Ayesha Khatun owns more land, some of which is cultivated by Jasim.

Police also said that Ayesha Khatun has a brother. He has children. Suspecting that the son of the grandmother’s brother can share the land, Jasim pressured the grandmother to write down the land. There was a dispute between the grandparents about this. Yesterday night around nine o’clock the two had a fight over the matter. At one point, Jasim hit Ayesha Khatun with a sword. Ayesha Khatun died on the spot. Local people arrested Jasim and informed the police.

Azizul Haque, Deputy Inspector (SI) of Phulpur police station said, Jasim was arrested after receiving information and the body was recovered. The condition of the body has been reported. Legal action is under process in this incident.
