Shariatpur teacher arrested for attacking education official with axe

An acting headmaster in Shariatpur was taken into police custody Sunday after allegedly attacking an assistant upazila primary education officer with an axe inside the local education office.

The victim, Shakil Ahmed, was conducting his duties at the Gosairhat Upazila Primary Education Office when the suspect, Jasim Uddin, reportedly initiated the assault. Uddin, the acting headmaster of the 79th North Char Jalalpur Government Primary School, entered the premises disguised in a raincoat, a face mask, and sunglasses. Witnesses stated that Uddin suddenly produced an axe from his bag and struck Ahmed.

Office staff intervened immediately, restraining the assailant and rescuing the injured official. Ahmed was subsequently transported to the Gosairhat Upazila Health Complex to receive medical treatment for his wounds.

Local police officials confirmed the arrest and noted that the two men had been involved in an ongoing dispute. Following his detention, a video circulated on social media showing the suspect speaking in an incoherent manner. In the footage, Uddin claimed to have consumed a beverage and watched an Argentina football match earlier in the day, asserting that he had no memory of the events that transpired afterward. Authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the attack.
