Police Arrest Teenager for Rape and Murder of Schoolgirl in Rangpur
Police in Taraganj have arrested 18-year-old Mujahid Islam in connection with the abduction, rape, and murder of a second-grade student. The suspect was taken into custody late Monday night at his residence following an investigation into the girl’s death.
The case began on Friday, when the victim went missing after leaving her home. Despite extensive searches by her family and public announcements made throughout the area, she could not be located. Her body was discovered the following morning in a jute field near an irrigation canal, prompting local residents to alert the authorities.
According to a report by Prothom Alo, the child’s father filed a complaint against unknown persons at the Taraganj Police Station on Sunday, alleging that his daughter had been sexually assaulted and killed. The formal complaint detailed gruesome injuries, noting that the child suffered severe trauma to her eyes, significant bruising on the back of her head, and abrasions on her right arm. Evidence collected at the scene further indicated that the victim had been subjected to sexual violence.
Taraganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ruhul Amin confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect is currently being interrogated. Authorities are actively analyzing evidence and pursuing further leads as the investigation continues. Officials indicated that additional details will be disclosed as the probe into the circumstances of the crime progresses.
