Out of 14 posts, BNP won 13 posts including president and secretary
The candidates of BNP-backed Nationalist Lawyers Panel (Blue Panel) have won 13 posts out of 14 posts, including president and secretary, in the election of the Supreme Court Lawyers Association, one of the top organizations of lawyers in the country. A candidate of the Jamaat-e-Islami-backed Lawyers Unity Panel (Green Panel) won one member post.
According to the announced results, AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon won the post of President from Blue Panel by getting 2 thousand 984 votes. In this post, his rival Abdul Baten of Subaj Panel got 788 votes.
Mohammad Ali won by getting 2 thousand 582 votes from the blue panel for the post of editor. In this post, his rival AKM Rezaul Karim Khandkar of Subaj Panel got 786 votes.
On April 2, a notice announced the date for the two-day elections (2026-27) of the association. Voting was held on May 13 (last Wednesday) and May 14 (Thursday) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a break of 1 hour in between.
Counting of votes started at 10:00 PM after polling. At the end of the counting, the convener of the sub-committee on the conduct of the election at the Supreme Court Lawyers Association auditorium on Thursday at two o'clock, senior lawyer Md. Miftah Uddin Chowdhury announced this result.
This election is held for 14 positions of the executive committee of the association for a period of one year. The posts are one president, two vice-presidents, one editor, one treasurer, two associate editors and seven members.

Six of the seven member posts were bagged by blue panel candidates. They are HM Sanjid Siddiqui, AKM Azad Hossain, Wahid Afroz Chowdhury, Md. Kabir Hossain, Md. Zia Uddin Mia and Md. Tipu Sultan Azim Uddin Patwari of Subaj Panel has won another post of member.
In this election, there were 40 candidates against 14 posts. 4 thousand 48 out of 11 thousand 97 voters voted in this election.
This election of the association is called non-partisan. But apparently the election is done on a panel basis with candidates nominated from lawyers supporting political parties. In the past, association elections have always been contested between pro-BNP (known as Blue) and pro-Awami League (known as White) lawyers panel nominees.
However, a special general meeting (EGM) of the general members of the association was held on April 26. In view of the prohibition of party activities there, it was decided not to allow pro-Awami League lawyers to participate in the elections.
For the first time in the history of the association, pro-Awami lawyers (white panel) could not participate in the elections. However, candidates from the BNP-backed Nationalist Lawyers Panel (Blue Panel), Jamaat-e-Islami-backed Lawyers Oikya Panel (Green Panel) and National Citizen Party (NCP)-backed National Lawyers Alliance Nominated Panel (Red-Green Panel) participated in the elections. Candidates for 14 posts are given from blue and green panels. The red-green panel nominates six candidates. Out of these three panels some independent candidates became.
