Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Commemorates July Uprising with Musical Tribute
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy commemorated the anniversary of the July uprising on Thursday evening with a vibrant musical program titled "Gane Gane July," held at the National Music and Dance Centre auditorium in Dhaka. The event served as both a tribute to the movement’s significance and a celebration of the cultural resurgence following the political transition.
The proceedings were presided over by Culture Secretary Kaniz Mawla, with Culture Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury attending as the chief guest. Other notable attendees included Shilpakala Academy Director General Rezauddin Stalin and Academy Secretary Mohammad Zakir Hossain.
Addressing the audience, Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury emphasized the government's commitment to harnessing the creative potential unleashed by the fall of the previous regime. He stated that the ministry is actively working to elevate the nation’s arts and culture to new heights, framing the current era as a pivotal moment for national artistic expression.
The cultural segment opened with a series of patriotic classics performed by Shilpakala Academy artists, including "Dhanadhanya Pushpa Bhara," "Chol Chol Chol," and "Durgam Giri, Kantar-Maru." The atmosphere remained charged with fervor as students from the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh performed "Purbo Digonte Surjo Utheche," followed by a poignant rendition of "Muktir Mandir Sopan Tole" by artists from the Srijani cultural organization.
The evening continued with solo performances by prominent artists including Zakir Hossain, Mita Mallick, Fuad Naser Babu, and Momtaz Rahman. The spirit of unity was further underscored by Jagannath University students, who delivered a collective performance of "Eki Aporup Rupe Ma Tomar." The program concluded with a spirited rendition of "Mora Jhanjhar Moto Uddam" by students from the Government Music College.
