Married Couple Arrested with 12,000 Yaba Tablets in South Banasree Raid

DHAKA, Bangladesh — The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) arrested a married couple and seized 12,000 Yaba tablets during a targeted raid on a rented apartment in the capital’s South Banasree area on Sunday evening.
The operation was conducted by a DNC team from the Uttara Circle at a flat inside Prateek Housing under the jurisdiction of Khilgaon Police Station.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Md. Jahirul Islam, alias Papon, 45, and his wife, Jannatul Ferdous, alias Annie, 32. While the couple are permanent residents of House 228 on Wapda Road in West Rampura, they had been residing in a rented apartment in Block J of Prateek Housing to carry out their illicit trade.
The Raid and Seizure
Acting on a tip-off regarding a significant drug consignment, a DNC team led by Inspector (North Circle) Dewan Mohammad Zillur Rahman raided the flat at around 7:00 PM on Sunday.

During a thorough search of the premises, the raiding team discovered a black tissue-fabric shopping bag concealed inside a wooden wardrobe in one of the rooms. Upon opening the bag, officials recovered 12,000 Yaba tablets neatly packed into 60 blue zippered pouches. The couple was immediately apprehended at the scene. Law enforcement also seized two mobile phones used to coordinate drug transactions.
Investigation and Legal Action
Inspector Dewan Mohammad Zillur Rahman stated that during initial interrogation, Jahirul and Jannatul confessed to their long-term involvement in the procurement and distribution of Yaba across the capital. They admitted to renting the South Banasree flat specifically to operate as a discreet hub for their drug trade, away from their permanent neighborhood.
A case has been formally registered against the couple under the Narcotics Control Act at the Khilgaon Police Station, and they have been placed under arrest pending further legal proceedings.
