Senior lawyer Yusuf Hossain Humayun's burial completed
Burial of Yusuf Hussain Humayun, former vice chairman of Bangladesh Bar Council and former president of Supreme Court Lawyers Association, has been completed. He was buried at the Martyr Intellectual Cemetery in Mirpur this Sunday afternoon after the funeral at the Supreme Court's Inner Garden premises.
Chief Justice Zubair Rahman Chowdhury expressed deep grief over Yusuf Hossain Humayun's death. In a condolence message today, he prayed for the soul of the deceased and expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family. As a mark of respect to the departed soul of Yusuf Hussain Humayun, the judicial proceedings of both the divisions of the Supreme Court (including the Chamber Court) are closed today on Sunday.
Yusuf Hussain Humayun (90) passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital on Saturday evening (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun). The first funeral of the deceased was held at Taqwa Mosque in Dhanmondi on Saturday after Esha. Yusuf Hussain Humayun's fellow lawyer Nazmul Hasan Rakib said that he was buried at the Martyr Intellectual Cemetery in Mirpur after the funeral at the Inner Garden premises of Bad Johar Supreme Court on Sunday.
Chief Justice Zubair Rahman Chowdhury, Attorney General Md. Ruhul Quddus Kajal, Supreme Court Bar Association President AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon and judges and lawyers of both divisions of the Supreme Court participated. After the funeral, various individuals and organizations paid tribute to the deceased with flowers.
Senior lawyer Yusuf Hossain Humayun was a member of Awami League's (currently banned) advisory board and a member of the party's presidium. He was the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (2016-17). This senior lawyer also served as the convener of the Bangabandhu Awami Lawyers Council.
Yusuf Hussain Humayun was born on November 14, 1936, in Bhola. He was a close companion of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. This veteran lawyer and politician was elected as a member of parliament from the then Bakerganj-4 constituency as an Awami League candidate in the first national parliamentary election in 1973.
