Islami Andolan Chief Criticizes Rival Islamic Parties Amid Leadership Reshuffle
Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, the leader of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, has questioned the legitimacy of other Islamist political factions, suggesting that the proliferation of such parties creates confusion and mistrust among the public. Speaking at a biennial conference of the party's Narayanganj district and metropolitan branches on Monday, the leader—known as the Pir of Charmonai—argued that his organization is the only group with the moral authority to represent true Islamic principles. He implied that other parties claiming to represent the faith were engaging in deceptive practices that only became apparent during the electoral process.
Addressing the audience at the Narayanganj Shilpakala Academy, the party leader expressed profound concern over the state of national law and order, political violence, and systemic corruption. He condemned the ongoing cycle of human suffering, highlighting the toll of state instability on grieving families and the victimization of innocent individuals through what he described as fabricated legal cases. Furthermore, he raised alarms regarding the persistent issue of capital flight, criticizing the drainage of national wealth into foreign accounts and the frequent loss of life during public unrest.
The party’s Secretary-General, Mawlana Gazi Ataur Rahman, who served as the keynote speaker, underscored the organization's history of political integrity. He maintained that Islami Andolan Bangladesh has never compromised its principles for the sake of opportunistic alliances, asserting that the party remains steadfast in its pursuit of truth and justice.
The event, chaired by Narayanganj district president Mawlana Deen Islam, featured addresses from several central leaders, including Organizing Secretary Mawlana Ariful Islam. The conference concluded with the dissolution of the 2024–2026 committees and the announcement of leadership for the 2026–2028 term.
Under the newly announced structure, Mawlana Deen Islam will serve as the metropolitan president, supported by Mufti Masum Billah as vice president and Md. Sultan Mahmud as secretary. For the district committee, the party appointed Md. Abdur Rashid as president, Faruk Ahmed Munshi as vice president, and Mawlana Shibbir Ahmad as secretary.
