Order to publish notice in newspaper for MP Amir Hamza to appear in court
The court ordered the publication of a notice in the newspaper for Kushtia-3 (Sadar) Constituency Member of Parliament Amir Hamza to appear in court in a defamation case filed against Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud (Tuku) as an atheist and anti-Islam. Sirajganj Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Suman Karmakar gave this order on Sunday afternoon.
Earlier, Amir Hamza was summoned to appear in court. He did not appear even though the date of appearance in the court was fixed today.
Nasir Uddin, assistant counsel for the state side of that court, told Prothom Alo that the court issued a summons to Kushtia-3 (Sadar) member of parliament and Jamaat leader Amir Hamza to appear in court on April 21 in a case of defamation. As he did not appear on the scheduled date, the court issued an arrest warrant against him and ordered his arrest. He did not appear even though the date of appearance in the court was fixed today. Due to which the court ordered publication of notice in newspaper against Amir Hamza.
On April 2, Sirajganj District Sessions and Judge Court Additional Government Counsel and District Bar Association General Secretary Humayun Kabir filed the case as plaintiff. According to him, Amir Hamza has done a very rude thing by calling Iqbal Hasan Mahmud, an accomplished son of Sirajganj, an atheist. Along with that, he also made ugly comments against Islam. Because of this, he got angry and filed a case against him under section 296, 500 and 504.
On March 26, Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud gave a speech honoring the great liberation war of 1971 and the brave freedom fighters. Amir Hamza, a member of Parliament, said that he was an atheist and anti-Islam in a discussion before the Friday prayer sermon at Hatsh Haripur Bara Jame Mosque in Kushtia Sadar Upazila.
