Four dead after failed rescue attempt in abandoned Tangail well

Four people, including a father and his son, died on Saturday after entering an abandoned well in Madhupur, Tangail, in a failed attempt to rescue a goat. The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. in Telkir Jaloi village, located in the Garh area of the upazila.
The victims have been identified as Babul Hadima and his son Neymar Mrong, along with Ratan Nokrek and Gabriel Nokrek, all residents of the same village. Local police confirmed the fatalities following a recovery operation conducted by emergency services.

According to witness accounts, the sequence of events began when a goat fell into the disused well. Gabriel Nokrek initially descended into the structure to retrieve the animal but failed to return or signal those above. Concerned for his safety, Babul Hadima, Neymar Mrong, and Ratan Nokrek entered the well one by one in an effort to assist, but they too became unresponsive.
Local residents alerted the Madhupur Fire Service and Civil Defense, who arrived at the scene and recovered the four bodies from the well.

Authorities stated that, while the exact cause of death remains under investigation, preliminary findings suggest the victims may have succumbed to toxic gas accumulation or oxygen deprivation within the confined space.
