Former minister Kamrul took permission for treatment at Evercare by ‘fraud’

Former Food Minister Kamrul Islam had taken permission to be treated at Evercare Hospital instead of Bangladesh Medical University by doing ‘fraud practice’ (fraudulent activities) with the International Criminal Tribunal, Chief Prosecutor Md. Aminul Islam.
The chief prosecutor made this complaint in a briefing at the tribunal’s own office on Thursday.
Former minister Kamrul Islam, accused in a case of crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising, is currently undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Medical University. The International Criminal Tribunal-1 recently ordered Kamrul Islam to be treated at Evercare Hospital following the plea of the accused.
In the briefing, the chief prosecutor said, there was an order from the tribunal to treat Kamrul Islam at Evercare Hospital instead of Bangladesh Medical University. By that order, it seems that Evercare Hospital does not have prison cells. Apart from this, there is a ‘Security Concern’ going on across the country. There was nothing about who would bear the cost of treatment in a private hospital.
Aminul Islam also said that the documents submitted by the accused in the application for receiving treatment at Evercare seemed suspicious. Especially after seeing an alleged medical paper dated February 25, I doubt how it came about. Because the accused is in court since November 18, 2024. There is no order of the tribunal, no permission, so how did he go to the doctor on February 15?
Referring to the application for reconsideration of the matter on April 28, the chief prosecutor said that the immediate tribunal saw this and suspended the order that he had given to receive treatment at Evercare Hospital instead of Bangladesh Medical University. A further hearing was held on Thursday and the order was set aside by the tribunal.
Aminul Islam said, ‘When someone talks about treatment, it is seen for humanitarian reasons. But later when we saw that such an order had been made that PG (Bangladesh Medical University) would be taken in Evercare instead, the matter was brought to our notice. We looked into the matter seriously. When we looked, we found that by submitting some such suspicious documents, they may have practiced fraud with the court or taken such an order by practicing fraud with the tribunal.
Mansurul Haque Chowdhury, the lawyer of accused Kamrul Islam in the tribunal on Thursday, said that he wants time to give a detailed explanation about the documents submitted for the treatment of Kamrul Islam at Evercare Hospital.
Later, the tribunal fixed May 17 as the date for the hearing.
