Fire at Bangladesh TCB Warehouse Leaves One Dead During Rescue Attempt

A 22-year-old man died Wednesday night while attempting to extinguish a fire at a Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) warehouse in Nachol, Chapainawabganj. The victim, identified as Mohammad Noyon, a local van driver and son of Abbas Ali, was trapped inside the burning facility at Hatbakail Bazar in the Nizampur union.

According to the Nachol Fire Service and Civil Defence, the blaze broke out on the ground floor of a two-story building used by a TCB dealer to store subsidized essential goods. Acting station officer Emdadul Haque reported that emergency responders arrived shortly after the alarm was raised and managed to bring the flames under control within 30 minutes. Upon conducting a search of the site, fire crews discovered Noyon’s body.

Local police officials, citing initial investigations, stated that Noyon and several other bystanders had attempted to combat the fire before authorities arrived. The group broke open the warehouse’s security shutter to gain access, but while the others managed to evacuate safely, Noyon became trapped as the fire intensified.

Preliminary assessments by fire officials suggest that a short circuit was the likely cause of the incident. Authorities estimate that TCB commodities valued at approximately 150,000 taka were damaged in the blaze. Local law enforcement is continuing to oversee the site as the investigation into the circumstances of the fire proceeds.
