RAB recaptures fugitive suspect following escape from Gazipur court premises

Elite rapid-response units of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have recaptured a fugitive suspect who escaped from the Gazipur Metropolitan Court premises on Monday. The suspect, identified as Samrat Mondal, was apprehended during a joint operation conducted by RAB-1 and RAB-14 in the Kashor area of Mymensingh city shortly after midnight.

Mondal, a resident of Takpara village in the Madarganj upazila of Jamalpur, initially fled police custody Monday afternoon. According to law enforcement reports, the suspect managed to slip his handcuffs and bolt from the court lockup while officers were preparing to present him before a judge. Despite an immediate pursuit by on-duty personnel, Mondal successfully evaded capture, prompting the Gazipur Metropolitan Police to file a criminal case against him under Section 224 of the Penal Code for escaping legal custody.

Following the escape, intelligence units utilized advanced tracking technology and informant networks to pinpoint Mondal’s location in Mymensingh. A coordinated strike team subsequently neutralized the threat by taking him into custody without further incident.

Mondal had originally been arrested by RAB last Saturday during an operation in the Khunia Madhyapara area of Gazipur, where three associates were also apprehended. Police records indicate that Mondal is a career criminal with a extensive rap sheet comprising 32 separate cases across multiple jurisdictions.

Following his recapture, the suspect was handed over to local authorities for interrogation and the continuation of standard legal proceedings, according to Captain Iftekhar Ahmed, company commander of the RAB-1 Gazipur Porabari camp.
