Father who steals daughter’s jewelry at gambling party, one month imprisonment

Three people have been arrested after raiding a gambling house at a truck depot in Sitakunda, Chittagong. Upazila administration said that one of them stole his daughter’s jewelery and was gambling. Later the mobile court sentenced them to one month imprisonment.

The operation was carried out at Sohel’s truck depot in Gamarital area of ​​Sonaichari union of the upazila at around 12:30 pm on Thursday. The convicted persons are truck driver Nazim Uddin (48), CNG autorickshaw driver Md. Azam (28) and shipwreck worker Kamal Hossain (47). Among them Azam’s house is Shitalpur of upazila, Kamal’s house is Pakka Masjid and Nazim’s house is in Kadam Rasul area. According to the administration, Kamal Hossain stole the girl’s silver nupur and sat in the gambling party.

According to upazila administration sources, around 40 people divided into several groups were playing gambling inside the truck depot. On receiving the information, an operation was conducted there under the leadership of Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Fakhrul Islam. On seeing the police, most of the gamblers ran away, but three were arrested. Cash and silver jewelery were recovered from them. Later, the three were sentenced to one month without labor by a mobile court.

UNO Md. Fakhrul Islam told Prothom Alo that CCTV cameras were installed around the truck depot. Because of this, the gamblers tried to escape after sensing the presence of the administration. After that, three people were arrested after being chased. One of the detainees brought his daughter’s silver jewelry to gamble. It was also reported that the girl was crying while refusing to take the jewellery. 4 thousand rupees were recovered from the other two.

However, the police claim that the jewelry recovered from Kamal Hossain is not silver. When asked, Sitakunda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohinul Islam told Prothom-alo that Kamal Hossain brought Nupur bought from the fair for his daughter to the gambling event. But after checking the nupurs it was found that they are not made of silver. It is made of lead. All those convicted have been sent to jail.
