Explosion rocks BNP office in Satkhira Kaliganj as police recover unexploded bombs

Unidentified assailants attacked a Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) office in the Bharashimla Union of Satkhira’s Kaliganj Upazila late Saturday night, hurling crude bombs at the facility. No injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred at approximately 12:45 a.m.
Witnesses reported that a group of individuals arriving on motorcycles targeted the BNP office, detonating several crude bombs before fleeing the scene. The loud explosions drew local residents to the area, who discovered two additional unexploded devices at the site. Following reports from party members, police and the Fire Service arrived at the location, securing the two unexploded bombs by 4:00 a.m.
Videos circulating on social media show the office shutters closed, with debris from the explosions and plastic remnants scattered in front of the building. One witness, who was at a nearby tea stall during the attack, stated he observed two suspects speeding away on a motorcycle immediately after the blasts occurred at 12:56 a.m.
Sohel Rana, General Secretary of the Bharashimla Union BNP, said he had departed the office with the union president around 11:00 p.m. shortly before being alerted to the attack by a party worker. He noted that the vicinity of the office showed clear evidence of multiple detonations.
Sheikh Ebadul Islam, convener of the Kaliganj Upazila BNP, condemned the attack as an unacceptable act of political violence. He called for a swift and impartial investigation to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kaliganj Police Station, Md. Shahidul Islam, confirmed that police recovered two unexploded bombs during their early morning operation. Preliminary assessments suggest that at least one of the devices successfully detonated, causing the damage observed at the scene. Authorities have initiated an inquiry into the incident.
