Explosion reported at BNP office in Satkhira; police launch investigation

Unidentified assailants detonated a homemade explosive device at the Krishnanagar Union branch office of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Satkhira’s Kaliganj sub-district late Friday night. The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. at the party office situated in the local Krishnanagar market. BNP officials confirmed that the blast caused no casualties and resulted in minimal property damage.

According to union BNP vice president Md. Idris Ali, he and several other party members, including joint secretary Rezaul Islam and member Raoshan Kaguji, were gathered at the office earlier in the evening. After locking the premises around 10:00 p.m., the group relocated to a nearby motorcycle garage. Shortly thereafter, they reported hearing a loud detonation and returned to find a fire burning in a corner of the office, which they subsequently extinguished.

Joint secretary Rezaul Islam suggested that the attack may have been a politically motivated attempt to damage the government’s image. He has called for a thorough investigation into the matter to identify and prosecute those responsible for the disturbance.

Local BNP members organized a protest march through Krishnanagar market later that night to condemn the explosion. Officers from the Kaliganj Police Station arrived at the scene shortly after the incident to collect evidence and conduct an initial assessment.

Officer-in-Charge Jewel Hossain confirmed that law enforcement has begun a formal investigation. He stated that police are reviewing the scene and preparing to take necessary legal measures as the inquiry proceeds.
