BNP's request to the Chief Prosecutor to confirm the trial of the victims of mass-coup murder-crossfire-disappearance
BNP has submitted three separate applications to the International Criminal Tribunal for justice in the cases of disappearances, crossfires and July mass coups that took place during the rule of the Awami League government in which 3 thousand 299 people were killed. The current chief prosecutor. The party has requested Aminul Islam to take quick legal action in these matters.
BNP National Executive Committee member Md. Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam today Monday. Salahuddin Khan submitted these applications. He is also serving as the team's Case, Missing, Murder and Data Protection Coordinator. Along with the application, BNP has re-submitted the necessary documents of the incident.
BNP alleged that earlier during the interim government these complaints were made to the then Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam but he did not take any effective action to prosecute the victims.
According to an application of BNP, from 2008 to August 5, 2024, 2 thousand 276 people were killed in the name of crossfire. Among them, 1 thousand 776 are BNP and its organizational leaders and workers. Complaints were made to the Chief Prosecutor's Office on January 8 last year for the prosecution of these murders. The then Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam promised to take action but there was no progress in the case. After several reminders, no action was taken. BNP has again requested the current Chief Prosecutor to take measures to punish the criminals in the interest of justice.
According to the second application, the application was filed on August 24 last year seeking justice in the case of disappearance of 175 persons from 2008 to August 5, 2024. Names of victims and necessary information are given there. Salah Uddin Khan said that the affected families are constantly flocking to the central office of BNP demanding justice and the arrest of criminals. The chairman of the party has also given instructions to ensure justice in this regard. In view of this, the documents of the missing persons have again been submitted to the tribunal.
In the third petition, BNP said that 848 people were martyred by law enforcement forces and terrorist forces of the then Awami League government during the anti-discrimination student movement from July 1 to August 5, 2024. Among them there are 153 people of Chhatra Dal and 373 leaders-activists and supporters of BNP and organizations. A complaint was filed in the tribunal on February 12, 2025 seeking trial for this murder. However, the relatives of the martyrs are expressing their anger as the then Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam did not take any action in this regard. The current chief prosecutor has been requested again for speedy action and justice.
