A 16-year-old student was hospitalized with a stab wound following a confrontation over perceived social hierarchy among peers outside a school in the capital’s Shyampur area on Sunday.

The victim, Shahriar Sanju, a ninth-grade student at Dholaipar High School, was attacked at approximately 12:15 p.m. directly in front of the school gates. According to the victim’s uncle, Abu Sayeed, the altercation began when a fellow student identified as Joy took offense at the manner in which Sanju addressed him, leading to a heated dispute regarding “seniority” between the two.
