Top Court Affirms Ivey Bail in Five Cases

Bangladesh's highest court today upheld the bail granted to former Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy in five separate cases, dismissing state appeals that sought to overturn her High Court release.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court rejected five distinct leave-to-appeal petitions filed by the prosecution, confirming Ivy's continued freedom in connection with the charges.

Ivy was taken into custody by police on May 9 of last year from her residence in Narayanganj city. She was subsequently shown arrested in a total of 12 cases.

Significantly, her name was not mentioned in the First Information Reports (FIRs) for seven of these cases. Despite more than a year passing since her arrest, investigations into the multiple charges against the former mayor remain incomplete.
