Chinese Premier Li Qiang hosted Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Thursday, marking a significant diplomatic engagement between the two nations. Upon his arrival from the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, the Prime Minister was greeted with a formal red-carpet ceremony, featuring a ceremonial salute by a guard of honor from the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.
The arrival proceedings included the playing of both national anthems, accompanied by a ceremonial gun salute. Following the formal honors, the two leaders inspected a military parade before proceeding to high-level bilateral discussions.

This visit marks Prime Minister Rahman’s first official trip to China since assuming office in February following the 13th parliamentary elections. The visit follows a two-day official trip to Malaysia and an attendance at the World Economic Forum in Dalian, from where the Prime Minister traveled to Beijing by high-speed rail on Wednesday.
According to Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir, the current high-level delegation meetings are focused on deepening economic ties. Key agenda items include strengthening trade relations, attracting investment, accelerating infrastructure development, and addressing various issues of mutual interest to both countries.

For Prime Minister Rahman, the visit to the Great Hall carries personal significance. He previously visited the facility in 2001 while accompanying then-Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, during which he also attended a similar state-level reception.
