Child Measles Deaths Exceed 500 Amid Outbreak

Thirteen children died from measles or measles-like symptoms across Bangladesh in a 24-hour period ending Saturday morning, with one confirmed measles case among the fatalities, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). The latest report highlights a continuing public health challenge as nearly 2,000 additional children nationwide exhibited measles symptoms during the same timeframe.

The confirmed measles death occurred in Barishal. Meanwhile, four children succumbed to measles-like symptoms in Dhaka, four in Sylhet, two in Chattogram, one in Barishal, and one in Mymensingh. These recent deaths bring the total number of child fatalities with measles-like symptoms to 426 since March 15, while 86 children have died from confirmed measles during the same period.

Since mid-March, a total of 62,507 children have developed measles-like symptoms across Bangladesh, the DGHS reported. Of those, 49,389 children required hospitalisation for treatment, with 45,011 subsequently discharged after recovery.
