BNP Activist Fatally Attacked in Dhaka Over Reported Personal Dispute

A 36-year-old local political activist was killed in a brutal targeted attack in the capital’s Sabujbagh area on Tuesday night. Ibrahim Palash, a worker for the ward-level Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), died shortly after being rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with catastrophic injuries, including the severance of both his wrists.
The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. near the water pump at Rajarbagh Bazar. According to witnesses, Palash, who worked as a private car driver, was sitting at a local tea stall when a group of 10 to 12 assailants descended upon him. Armed with sharp weapons, the attackers inflicted multiple wounds, including two strikes to his chest, before fleeing the scene.

Neighbors and local sources allege the killing was the result of a recent confrontation over a stolen rickshaw. It is reported that Palash had recently engaged in a heated argument with an individual named Sabuj after attempting to recover a rickshaw stolen from a local garage. This previous dispute is believed to have motivated the fatal assault, which reportedly involved suspects identified as Royal, Sabuj, and Naim.
Palash, the son of Abul Bashar from the Sonapur area of Raipur in Lakshmipur, resided in the 71 Madartek area of Sabujbagh. He was initially transported to Mugda General Hospital by bystanders before being transferred to the emergency department at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Inspector Md. Faruk of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost confirmed that the body has been placed in the morgue for post-mortem examination. Local authorities have been notified of the crime, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack is underway.
