Bhairab municipal official files police complaint after receiving death threat in parcel

The executive officer of Bhairab municipality in Kishoreganj has filed a police complaint after receiving a death threat delivered in the form of a burial shroud. Md. Faruk, who has served as the municipal executive officer for approximately four and a half years, received the package on Sunday via a courier service at his residence in Brahmanbaria.

Inside the parcel, investigators found a white shroud, rose water, incense sticks, and a handwritten note warning him to vacate his post in Bhairab within one month or face dire consequences. Following the discovery, Faruk registered a general diary at the Bhairab police station on Monday, citing concerns for his personal safety and requesting a thorough investigation.

Preliminary inquiries by police suggest the package was booked at a branch in Bhairab, despite the sender’s name being listed as “Haridas” with an address in Ashuganj. Inspector Limon Bose of the Bhairab police stated that investigators are currently tracing the mobile number used during the booking process to identify the sender.

Faruk, who commutes to Bhairab from his home in Brahmanbaria, believes the threat is linked to his administrative duties. He stated that his commitment to strict adherence to regulations often clashes with influential parties seeking to bypass established procedures for their own benefit. He suggested that his refusal to facilitate illegal activities likely antagonized those who now wish to force him out of his position.

However, internal tensions within the municipality present a complex backdrop to the incident. Some staff members have alleged that the executive officer frequently oversteps his authority by interfering in departmental operations that fall outside his direct oversight. While police are scrutinizing potential professional retaliation from external stakeholders, they confirmed that all aspects of internal municipal dynamics are being considered to determine the source of the intimidation.
