BGB arrests man for attempted illegal border crossing in Panchagarh

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel apprehended a 43-year-old man late Saturday night as he allegedly attempted to cross into India illegally through the Barshashi border in Boda, Panchagarh.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Sirajul Islam, commander of the Nilphamari 56 BGB Battalion, the suspect, identified as Asim Biswas from the Rautra area of Magura Sadar, was intercepted near the Amarkhana area. BGB patrol teams took the man into custody at approximately 11:30 p.m. near the 7th sub-pillar of main pillar 778, roughly 150 yards inside Bangladeshi territory.

During initial questioning, Biswas admitted that he was attempting to cross the border in search of employment. Following his detention, BGB officials transferred him to the Boda Police Station.

Subedar Ekabbar Rahman of the Barshashi Border Outpost filed a case against the suspect under the Passport Act. Boda Police Station officer-in-charge Soel Rana confirmed that the accused was processed through the legal system and subsequently presented before a court on Sunday afternoon.
