The Bangladeshi government is launching a renewed drive to position the nation as a stable, predictable, and open destination for foreign investment, despite lingering global economic uncertainty and domestic structural challenges. At an investment summit held in the capital on Saturday, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman outlined a strategic framework centered on “stability, reform, and development” to reinvigorate the country’s economic diplomacy.

Organized jointly by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), the event—titled “Roadmap for Trade, Growth, and Economic Diplomacy”—sought to address the government’s strategy for navigating the current global energy crisis and shifting international trade dynamics. Foreign Minister Rahman noted that the present challenges echo the volatility of the 1970s oil crises, which historically stifled growth in many developing nations. To mitigate these risks, he emphasized that the government is prioritizing the restoration of trust among domestic businesses, citizens, and international partners to establish Bangladesh as a competitive investment hub within South Asia.

During the summit, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stressed that the current administration is committed to a development trajectory that ensures the dignity of all citizens. He highlighted a focus on economic equity and the dismantling of monopolistic structures that have historically hindered fair competition.

The summit featured multiple sessions where policymakers focused on the integration of diplomatic efforts with economic goals. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam pledged that the Foreign Ministry would work proactively to assist foreign investors and resolve operational hurdles. Meanwhile, Humayun Kabir, the Prime Minister’s advisor on foreign affairs, underscored the importance of regional connectivity and cooperation as key drivers for attracting capital.
