Bangladesh Increases Monthly Allowances and Financial Benefits for Freedom Fighters

The Bangladesh government has announced a significant increase in monthly honorariums and financial grants for freedom fighters, their families, and those wounded during the nation’s struggle for independence. According to a recent notification issued by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, the adjusted rates for various allowances—including monthly honorariums, festival bonuses, medical support, and special grants for Victory Day and Bengali New Year—will take effect on July 1, 2026.
The decision was formalized under the Bangladesh Freedom Fighter Welfare Trust Act of 2018 and relevant regulations established by the ministry. Officials stated that the move is intended to bolster the social security, financial stability, and national status of those who contributed to the country’s liberation.

Under the new structure, gallantry award recipients will see an increase in their monthly payments. Freedom fighters honored with the Bir Uttam title will receive a monthly honorarium of 30,000 taka, while those awarded the Bir Bikram and Bir Protik titles will receive 25,000 taka per month. Both groups are entitled to a 10,000 taka festival bonus, alongside 5,000 taka for Victory Day and 2,000 taka for Bengali New Year.
Families of martyred freedom fighters will receive a monthly core honorarium of 23,000 taka. This is supplemented by a 2,000 taka medical allowance, a 5,000 taka food allowance, an annual festival bonus of 23,000 taka, and a 2,000 taka Bengali New Year allowance.

For war-wounded freedom fighters, the monthly honorariums have been categorized into four tiers based on the extent of their disability. Those in the ‘Ka’ category, reflecting 96 to 100 percent disability, are set to receive 30,000 taka. Recipients in the ‘Kha’ category (61 to 95 percent disability) will receive 28,000 taka, while those in the ‘Ga’ category (20 to 60 percent) and ‘Gha’ category (1 to 19 percent) will receive 23,000 taka and 20,000 taka, respectively.
The notification, signed by Deputy Secretary Mu. Asaduzzaman, emphasized that the government remains committed to implementing welfare programs to protect the dignity and financial well-being of the nation’s veterans. Authorities expect that these enhanced benefits will substantially improve the quality of life for freedom fighters and their dependents across the country.
