Bangladesh Flood Death Toll Rises to 54 as Crisis Affects 59 Sub-districts

Devastating floods across Bangladesh have claimed at least 54 lives and impacted 59 upazilas, as severe monsoon rains continue to inundate large swaths of the country’s southeastern and northeastern regions. Authorities confirmed the rising toll on Tuesday following an inter-ministerial meeting held at the Secretariat in Dhaka.
Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu reported that the flooding has disrupted life across 368 unions and 12 municipalities. The worst-affected areas include the districts of Habiganj, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, Khagrachhari, Rangamati, and Moulvibazar. As water levels begin to recede, the full extent of the infrastructure and agricultural damage is gradually coming into view.

To address the humanitarian crisis, the government has authorized an immediate allocation of 17.5 million taka for emergency relief operations. In addition to these funds, officials have distributed significant quantities of rice and dry rations to displaced families.
The inter-ministerial meeting, chaired by Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, included briefings from the ministers of health and agriculture, as well as the state minister for water resources. These officials detailed ongoing efforts by their respective ministries to manage the emergency response, coordinate medical support for the affected populations, and plan for recovery operations in the wake of the deluge.
