BGB prevents alleged BSF attempt to push seven individuals into Bangladesh
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) forces successfully thwarted an attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push seven men across the border into Bangladesh on Friday morning. The incident occurred near border pillar 219/24-R in the Charaldanga area of Gomostapur upazila in Chapainawabganj.
According to a press release issued by the BGB, the incident began around 6:30 a.m. when personnel from the BSF’s 12th Battalion, stationed at the Tilashan camp, attempted to force the group of men into Bangladeshi territory. Upon receiving reports of the activity, a patrol team from the Charaldanga border outpost was dispatched to the site, where they identified the seven individuals positioned on the Indian side of the international zero line. BGB personnel immediately moved to block the group’s entry into Bangladesh.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Ariful Islam Masum, commander of the 16th BGB Battalion, confirmed that while communication took place between the two forces at the company commander level, BSF officials denied that a push-in attempt was occurring.
Despite the denial, BGB officials confirmed that the group remained on the Indian side of the zero line as of Friday afternoon. Authorities are currently coordinating to ensure the individuals are safely returned to Indian territory through nearby unfenced sections of the border.
