Awami League could not participate in the election Protest song by pro-lawyers

Awami League-supporting lawyers who were banned from participating in the Chittagong District Bar Association elections sang protest songs. Today, around noon on Thursday, they sat at the entrance of the lawyer Shapla Bhavan of the court building and carried out this program. Voting was going on in the District Bar Association building next to it.
In a video that went viral on social media today, a group of lawyers can be seen sitting on the stairs chanting ‘Bhot Dakat, Bhot Chor, Keke Rabe Na/ Vote Thieves will be washed away in the Bay of Bengal’. Apart from this, Awami League-supporting lawyers also protested in the court premises throughout the day.
Earlier yesterday, Awami League-supporting lawyers displayed black flags, protest marches and rallies calling for the boycott of the elections on Wednesday. They complain that the election process is being conducted unilaterally. The lawyers who took part in the protest raised slogans of ‘fake election’ and ‘auto election’ and protested against the action of the Election Commission.
HM Zia Uddin, former General Secretary of Awami League Supporter Lawyers and District Lawyers Association, told Prothom Alo that in the 133-year history of the association, there has never been a precedent of forming an ‘auto committee’ without voting. In the past, even during the Corona period, there have been contested elections in the association. He said that pro-Jamaat lawyers have already announced to boycott the elections. He also alleged that the current election commission is ruining the tradition of the association.
Awami League-supporting lawyers were allegedly stopped when they went to collect nomination papers to participate in the May 4 election. They could not collect and submit nomination papers on that day.
When asked about this, Kamrul Islam Chowdhury, Member Secretary of Nationalist Lawyers Forum Chittagong told Prothom Alo that the activities of Awami League are banned in the state. In this situation, there is no environment for party-backed lawyers to participate in elections. So they have no opportunity to participate.
