New Navy Chief Admiral Misbah Ul Azeem Pays Homage at Shikha Anirban
Newly appointed Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Khondkar Misbah ul Azim paid solemn tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War on Friday, laying a wreath at the Shikha Anirban in Dhaka Cantonment. Following the ceremony, he recorded his respects in the visitors' book at the memorial site before proceeding to Naval Headquarters.
Upon his arrival at the headquarters, the Naval Chief was received by the Principal Staff Officers. He was subsequently presented with a guard of honor by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Bangladesh Navy, which he inspected while receiving a formal salute in the presence of senior naval officials.
Vice Admiral Azim officially assumed command of the Bangladesh Navy on Thursday. According to an announcement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the new chief has committed to transforming the force into a sophisticated, modern blue-water navy.
Guided by the directives of the Prime Minister, the Naval Chief intends to prioritize the protection of the nation’s vast maritime boundaries and the promotion of the blue economy. His strategic vision includes bolstering national sovereignty and maritime security through the integration of advanced technologies, including modern frigates, submarines, and cutting-edge sonar and radar systems.
