Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin ur Rashid expressed hope that the agriculture card will make the country’s agriculture sector self-reliant and self-sufficient. He said this at the Bibirbazar High School and College ground of Comilla Adarsh Sadar Upazila at around 12 noon on Friday. Agriculture cards were distributed among 1 thousand 458 farmers in the event.
At the event, Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid said that Bangladesh became self-sufficient in food during the time of martyred President Ziaur Rahman. The present Prime Minister, as the son of late Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia, holds their ideals and belief that – ‘If the farmer survives, the country will survive’. The current government is agrarian government. The biggest example of which is the agricultural card. This card will make the agriculture sector of the country more self-reliant and ensure the dignity and rights of farmers. Farmers will get all government facilities quickly and directly through the card. This card will make the country’s agriculture sector self-sufficient.

Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin ur Rashid said, through this card, direct incentives of 2 thousand 500 taka per year will be sent to the landless, marginal and small farmers as a bank. Although these cards are given in total 5 categories (landless, marginal, small, medium and large), cash incentives or money are mainly received by landless, marginal and small farmers. However, cardholder farmers will get agricultural inputs at fair prices, irrigation facilities, agricultural loans on easy terms, agricultural machinery, government subsidies and insurance benefits. This program is being conducted in three phases, pre-piloting, piloting and nationwide.
Recalling the election promise, the minister said, “We had a plan for agriculture card within 31 points. Many criticized that it would not be effective after the election. But before the ink stain of the vote was erased, the government started the circulation of agricultural loan waiver up to 10 thousand rupees and family card. Now the government has kept its promise by distributing agricultural cards. He further said that Begum Khaleda Zia started giving agricultural loan waiver and fertilizer subsidy. The current Prime Minister has also taken unprecedented steps in the interests of farmers soon after coming to power. Because, we believe, 70 percent of the people of this country are farmers, and if their economy is strong, the country’s economy will be strong. Farmers will get many facilities through this card. So take care of the card.

The minister warned and said, ‘No one can get away with doing injustice to the farmers. This country is a country of 12 months crops; If agriculture is strong, we will not need to beg or lend to anyone.’
Salma Akhter, a local Gazipur village farmer, received the agricultural card at the event and said, “My sweat and hard work has a price.” I am not just a housewife, I am a farmer producing food for the country. Let this card be my identity card.
Jasim Uddin, Member of Parliament of Comilla-5 Constituency, Secretary of Agriculture Ministry Rafiqul E Mohammed, Secretary of Fisheries and Livestock Ministry spoke at the event.
